Sunday, September 16th, 2007

If you’re looking for a free way to get some targeted traffic to your blog then you might want to try Blog Rush.

John Reese has released a new widget for your blog that could send your traffic through the roof.

Simply put by signing up for free you’re given a piece of code to place in your blog, this widget shows links to five other category related blogs, everytime the widget shows up on a page in your blog - your blog link will show up in someone elses.
There’s a good video that shows you how it works along with how it works which you can see here, along with videos that show you how to set it up on a variety of blog platforms should you need them.

It’s well worth taking a look and watching the video to see how it could help you build your traffic.

Got Your Blog - Where’s The Visitors?

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

For many people getting there first blog up and running is a great experience - that can quickly turn sour if you don’t have anyone visiting it. While there are many things you can do when it comes to optimising your blog for the search engines that’s only a fairly small part when it comes to getting the initial visitors and search engine spiders to your blog in the first place.

I’ve created a page on getting your first blog noticed and while it mentions many of the free tools provided to members of the NZPCS program it also covers some other tips you may find useful. Read more here

Editing Your NZPCS Blog Theme

Wednesday, June 20th, 2007

Once you’ve uploaded your NZPCS blog theme you’ll need to make a few changes to it, this may seem a little daunting but it’s not too hard (and remember that I’m always happy to guide you through each step)

The first things you’ll want to do are change the sidebar, header and footer. To make these changes open your blog dashboard and click on presentation, from there open the theme editor and to the right of the screen you’ll see a list of files that make up your template.

Open the first you want to change eg footer - you’ll want to change this for example to place your adsense code in.

You will also want to change your sidebar - where you’ll want to add your get response code so others that are interested can receive your autoresponder messages or add any affliate banners etc. When editing this page for example you can simply paste any links or banners right at the top of the page (before the < starts) or at the bottom of the page after the other code etc. The instruction site also gives some brief examples of adding anchor text (the html code you need etc)
You can also place your links/banners etc in between the code on the page - so it shows up between the categories or links etc - just make sure you don't accidentally delete the code already there

I'd urge you to copy any original information first (either copy and paste on notepad or download the original file) that way if something does go wrong you can put it back to its original form.

There are other aspects of your blog that you can change; the 404 page for example - if you'd like to know a little more about that I've recently created a new blog: editing the wordpress 404 page

Make your blog interactive

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

I’ve just uploaded a new wordpress plugin that gives your readers the chance to rate your posts/products.

Using this plugin not only gives your readers the chance to voice their opinions about whatever you’re blogging about (whether it’s affiliate marketing, a review site, selected products or just a blog full of personal opinions) it also gives them up to date information on what others think and will keep them coming back to your blog. Giving you lots of fresh user generated content.

The plugin comes with full step by step instructions and a video guide

This is a great free plugin and well worth taking a look at Ratings Dominator

Setting Up Your Work From Home Blog

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

When it comes to installing a worpress blog there are two ways to go about it - with many hosting providers nowadays by going through fantastico you’ll see it’s just a matter of clicking a button or two - it does the rest for you - from setting up your mysql database to installing the blog. For other hosts you need to upload wordpress from scratch - again this is quite simple to do and if you’re familiar with ftp programs it can be done fairly quickly. Even if you choose to use the fantastico instructions I do suggest you have a look at the instructions you can find in the NZPCS instruction site (there are several video downloads - the autoblog software also comes with an extensive video) or visit www.wordpress.org where you will find a five minute installation guide. Once you have an understanding of how to install wordpress it then simply becomes a matter of either uploading your chosen theme (in this case the NZPCS theme) or other widgets and plugins - Just make sure you put your uploads in the correct paths eg wp-content/themes etc

After you’ve downloaded your work from home blog template you then need to upload it to your server so you can change the theme of your blog in your wordpress dashboard. If you have your wordpress blog set-up this simply becomes a matter of ftping the NZPCS template to the wp-content/themes folder of your blog.
Once you have your NZPCS Template installed you just need to open your dashboard - go to presentation and then select it.

Down the track you when you start creating autoblogs etc you may want to try a variety of themes, to find some you can visit the Theme viewer where you can download a variety of different themes. You will also want to play around with chosen plugins etc - the sidebar widgets is a very handyone to have - along with the seo plugins that you’ll find on the free download page in the NZPCS Instruction site.

For members that are in anyway unsure of how to do this and would like me to talk them through it please contact my via skype (those in my team will already have my id - other members can find it in the Forum)

Get Visitors To Your Websites Or Blogs For Free

Friday, March 2nd, 2007

You have just spent weeks or maybe even months building what you consider to the one of the coolest websites or blogs the internet has ever seen only to discover that no one is coming to see your masterpiece? or perhaps you’ve just spent more money than you could really afford on advertising only to find that it’s not made all that much difference? If that sounds like you here’s a few tips that can help bring the visitors to you, and best of all, they won’t cost a cent.

Forums: Get involved in forums that are related to the chosen subject of your website or blog and add a link to your site in your signature. Not only does this help create links back to your site but you will soon become recognised within your chosen field and people will build their trust in you.

Directories: There are hundreds of free directory sites on the internet both for your websites and your blog’s rss feed, make sure you submit your urls (or feed) to them. In fact there are even software programs out there that will help you to do it. NZPCS Members will recieve this software one there application is approved

Word Of Mouth: Spread the word offline about your site, add your url to your business card etc.

Articles: Write an article relating to the topic of your site and submit it to the free article sites and add the link to your site in the resource box or in your biography. You can receive a free copy of this program as a member of the NZPCS Program

These are just a few ways you can try to get traffic to your site for free. Of course one of the best things to do is to have good quality content that is updated regularly so people want to keep coming back and are happy to tell their friends about your site(s). Remember though it won’t happen overnight, it takes time to build interest in a webpage or blog, but once you have it with each passing day you’ll start to notice more and more visitors.
